Unity Marketing survey of luxury consumers and their use of the Internet underscores its vital role as a resource for luxury purchases
It is likely to be a "Cyber Christmas" for luxury shoppers this year as more affluent shoppers turn to the Internet to do their shopping. In the latest survey of luxury consumers' spending and purchase behavior, Unity Marketing found that the Internet ranked as one of the top three shopping venues in 12 out of 14 luxury goods categories.

The long-range forecast for the luxury travel sector now through 2011 is mixed -- Bright and sunny for travel providers catering to the pleasure market, with storms and changing winds ahead for marketers that rely primarily on the business travel segment. This according to a new trend report published by Unity Marketing entitled Forecast for Luxury Travel Through 2011: A Luxury Trend Report. It is based upon the results of a survey conducted in October 2-7, 2010 among 1,067 affluent consumers (avg. income $228,800).

Predictions for holiday gift sales this year are grim. Most analysts expect the retail trade to see sales declines of one-to-two percent this year, making for two straight years of sales declines.
Even the traditionally free-spending affluent consumers with incomes in excess of $100,000 are going to hold tight on spending this holiday season. Unity Marketing's latest survey of 1,067 affluent luxury consumers (avg. income $228,800) conducted October 2-7, 2009 found that nearly 90 percent expect to spend the same (50 percent) or less (38 percent) on holiday gifts this year as they did last year. Only 11 percent of affluent shoppers say they are going to spend more.
