Time With Natalie - Featuring Dress For Success

Author // Natalie Louise Brown

Dress For Success originated in the US where they have approximately 80 offices and a number of offices worldwide.

Dress For Success London is a charity that helps women on low incomes get a job and become financially independent. They provide interview clothes and interview training to help women feel more confident and start to believe in their own ability to succeed and move on with their lives. One in two of the women they help gets a job.

They are based in London and have a team of over 50 volunteers who work with clients to make them look great and feel confident for their job interview. They rely on financial contributions, volunteer time and clothing donations from committed individuals and organisations to enable them to carry on with their work.

They help women on low incomes get back to work by dressing them in a complete outfit of smart clothes to wear to their interview and by giving them one-to-one interview training. A professional outfit followed by careful interview preparation transforms clients’ self-confidence and gives them a far greater chance of succeeding.

Most of their clients have been out of work for more than a year and 45% are single parents. Many women visit them from refuges and homeless shelters and some are ex-offenders and former drug users.

Dress For Success At Downing Street

Over 100 guests from the world of fashion, business and fundraising attended the event to raise awareness of our services helping women get back to work. Mrs. Cameron spoke enthusiastically about the impact of the charity’s work which she has witnessed herself on many occasions.

One of their former clients, Emma Cleverdon, had the audience gripped when she described her own personal journey and how she had been helped by Dress for Success. Emma and other Dress For Success clients did a wonderful job of telling guests about their experience and about the support they had received. Many people commented on the warmth of the occasion and the positive atmosphere generated. It was a very special evening.

TIME FOR GIVING

This year we are spearheading a campaign for Dress for Success London.

HELP US TO SUPPORT THEM!

We are putting on events around the UK and we are asking women to bring some suitable interview clothing that you would like to donate to the charity.

The clothes you donate have the power to transform someone’s life. Looking and feeling confident is vital to making that all important first impression in a job interview.

What IS appropriate to donate:

  • Business casual and formal interview clothing of all types, shapes and sizes e.g suits, separates, blouses, shirts, knitwear.
  • Interview appropriate shoes in all sizes.
  • Handbags, accessories e.g. scarves, interview appropriate jewellery and new tights.
  • All items should be in good condition, cleaned and pressed.

What is NOT appropriate to donate:

  • Used make-up/beauty products.
  • Second-hand underwear.
  • Casual clothing/shoes e.g. jeans, t-shirts, chunky sweaters, tracksuit bottoms and trainers.
  • Dirty clothing – as a small charity they don’t have the resources to clean clothing.

Please help us to help them. They are doing an amazing job and every item of clothing you donate makes a huge difference in a woman’s life. It is also a great way for you to get rid of those items you haven’t worn in ages or just don’t fit anymore! Just bring them to the event and we’ll do the rest.
