I wish I could tell you that I’d always had a burning desire to be a business owner, but the truth of the matter is, it evolved over time.
I’ve had one of those career paths that from the outside makes no sense. I started out a teacher, designer, counselor, sales rep and then a business owner. If you’re like most people you’re reading this and saying to yourself, “What the heck?!” However as you look at each profession there are key factors that link those professions together. Each one involves working with people, being a problem solver, educating someone else, and not being afraid to be the one who steps out front to point the way.
It took me a long time to recognize that my strength lie in my independence, and my desire to work with people. Being a business owner enables me to utilize my strengths, and satisfy my desire for independence. Of course it doesn’t come without anxiety, but my anxiety now stems from me—in other words when something goes wrong—and in business those occasions pop up—I get to use my problem solving skills, find the solution and work it through in order to satisfy my customers.
