An overview of the best food websites with satellite internet in California

California definitely gets the reputation as the land of opportunity, even today. And with so many people who moved out there to try to earn a fortune succeeding and heading off to the hills or more remote stretches, suddenly there is an industry in place to provide a better version of the internet to more remote parts of the state. While most people picture California as a serene and bustling state where technology is cutting-edge and people are interested in macrobiotic diets as well as delicious Mexican food, the truth is that sometimes, technology doesn't quite move at the right pace.

While people running around San Francisco might be able to check the internet from their cell phones or computers just about anywhere, countless other corners of the state were not yet wired until the introduction of satellite internet. This meant that getting online was very difficult, as it depended on a dial-up connection. And with many people moving out of the cities and to the countryside in California with the hopes of telecommuting or having a relaxing break, the introduction of satellite internet couldn't have come at a better time.

But what are all those Californians off the grid using the internet for?

Mostly the usual things. But if you're the sort of person who is excited about the fresh air but still missing the trappings of city life, you might turn to the internet to ease that transition. Here are five best food websites with satellite internet if you're adjusting to life with only farmer's markets rather than endless restaurants to choose from. And it goes without saying that they all work a whole lot better if you're using the latest innovation in the way you can get online from the countryside, satellite internet, rather than boring old dial-up.

1. GrubStreet

Though it might come from the right coast rather than the left coast, GrubStreet covers the world of food with such a fervor and passion that you better keep snacks unhand for when you're reading. It's definitely an excellent resource for finding out about the latest food trends, and keeping a list of restaurants you want to check out the next time you hit a city.

2. The San Francisco Chronicle

Yes, it's a newspaper that you might be able to get delivered to your house, so why spend your valuable time online checking out the SF Chronicle's website? Because the amount of content that they have on things like restaurants, fresh markets, food trends, and even recipes is staggering, and online, it's all in one place. Whether you're searching for inspiration for dinner or a great spot to meet friends the next time you're in the Bay Area, this is one serious resource that runs better with satellite internet.

3. Martha Stewart Food

The original foodie might be out of touch for some diners and foodies, but if you have a heart, then you can't do anything but admire and love Martha. For extra and incredible information, follow her on Twitter, where you can see photographs from her bee hives as well as candid shots of the gardens year-round. Super inspirational.

4. Chow

The world of food designed by and participated in by foodies, Chow will give you the snobbier side of what it means to be interested in cooking and cuisine in general.

5. Anthony Bourdain's Blog

The host of "No Reservations" is definitely one of those celebrity chef bad guys, but his insight on travel, dining, and how to make any number of dishes is worth whatever abrasive comments he might have from time to time. If you're a particularly picky eater, you're not going to find yourself met with a sympathy here, but everyone else should be fine.
