Reese Witherspoon, Julie Roberts, Anne Bancroft, Jennifer Jones and now Sandra Bullock. Each of these women won the Oscar for Best Actress. But what do they really have in common?
They brought to the big screen the real-life, not-so-everyday women who are among us doing remarkable things.
From Erin Brockovich to Anne Sullivan, June Carter to St. Bernadette, and now Leigh Anne Tuohy, we see the remarkable presence and influence these women had on people. The women portrayed were and are strong, smart, sassy and influential women who didn't let their personal barriers stand in their way.
They made a difference. A young June Carter mastered hard work and deep commitment to become a leading lady in country music. An out-of-work single mom spear headed one of the biggest class action lawsuits against a multi-billion dollar corporation who was poisoning residents of Hinkley, CA with toxic chemicals.
A lonely Anne Sullivan taught a strong-willed Helen Keller overcame her silence to give her gifts to the world. And Bernadette Soubirous survived extreme poverty, cholera and public doubt to carry a message to the world through the apparition known as Our Lady of Lourdes where more than 5 million people visit yearly.

At some point you need to realize that you ARE an expert in your field and you are holding yourself back
In today's fast paced world we have access to more information than ever before, be it books, media or opportunities for education.
And while it's great to have all this information and learning at our fingertips, it can sometimes be a detriment to us as women. In fact, for some people, women business owners for instance, it can be an excuse for them not to move forward in their business.
Two reasons like this I've heard recently include: "I'm just not sure I can be successful. I know I help people, but I need more experience." And "I need to get another certification (take another seminar/get another degree) before I can be an expert and really put myself out there."

Taking care of oneself physically and mentally, keeping a positive mindset is a great way to keep yourself in the game and grow your business
Belonging to the fraternity of women owned businesses I did a lot of things over the past few years to grow and expand my business, including working for the lifestyle I want, defining my ideal clients and taking care of my physical and mental health.
Part of my mental healthcare included maintaining a positive mindset and it really made a huge difference. It cleared my head and allowed me to really focus on my business. Here are the four things I did to create a constant source of positive energy.

Four and a half years ago I became a mother to a beautiful and sweet girl named Bella. I knew I wanted to be a "mom" but also continue to expand my business.
I committed to a three day a week work schedule so I could be mom on Mondays and Fridays and be Lisa Cherney, CEO of Conscious Marketing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
I took many steps to expand my business in 2009 and ultimately triple my income, and one of these steps was affirming this three days a week work lifestyle.
As women business owners we should think about our lifestyle and our businesses. Affirm and explore and decide on what lifestyle you want to have while balancing everything there is to balance. I work with a lot of women business owners and entrepreneurs who were like me many years ago, working six days a week, up late at night, not taking vacations. A lot of us are in business for ourselves because we didn't want a boss. But we find that we've traded one boss for a worse boss - ourselves!

You may be thinking, "You're crazy, I can't do that!" but all of those things on your list will be there when you get back
But when you get back you'll also have something else - clarity - which will help you tackle everything with a much clearer head.
I recently took some down time from my business, and it was the best thing I could have done. I practiced extreme self-care and it was the first step of several I took that eventually tripled my income. Here are a few of things I recommend to start taking time off for yourself, which will in turn increase your income.
1. Look at your calendar, pick a day and write in huge black letters O-F-F!
This is not going to happen unless you mark it on your calendar and make it part of your schedule. Then when the day comes, do something for yourself to create some space. I got a massage, went shopping and bought myself some new clothes. I did not work.
