Victoria Whiteland - Couture Corset Designer - A Life in Stitches
I design corsets. I find them utterly fascinating garments as they tell such a vivid story about us as women.
The sculptural power of corsetry; the ability to shape our bodies is part of this story.
I believe in using the power of corsetry for positive change: I am inspired by the idea that I am part of life-changing stories; many women say that my corsets have changed their life and their perception of themselves.
I enjoyed a rural childhood and was free to use my time in my own way. Most days I climbed to the bell tower with my books, and indulged my love of literature and art. I took great delight in the imaginary, the fabulous and the factual... I enjoyed my lofty view of the world!
Most Unique And Cutest Clothing Items, Boutique And Personalized Outfits, Gifts And Accessories For Babies, Toddlers And Older Children
I wish I could tell you that I’d always had a burning desire to be a business owner, but the truth of the matter is, it evolved over time.
I’ve had one of those career paths that from the outside makes no sense. I started out a teacher, designer, counselor, sales rep and then a business owner. If you’re like most people you’re reading this and saying to yourself, “What the heck?!” However as you look at each profession there are key factors that link those professions together. Each one involves working with people, being a problem solver, educating someone else, and not being afraid to be the one who steps out front to point the way.
It took me a long time to recognize that my strength lie in my independence, and my desire to work with people. Being a business owner enables me to utilize my strengths, and satisfy my desire for independence. Of course it doesn’t come without anxiety, but my anxiety now stems from me—in other words when something goes wrong—and in business those occasions pop up—I get to use my problem solving skills, find the solution and work it through in order to satisfy my customers.

From A Gourmet Cook, Food Writer And Author Of "The Dance Of Spices: Classic Indian Cooking For Today's Home Kitchen"
If Two Decades Ago Someone Had Asked Me If I Wanted To Become A Gourmet Cook, I Would Have Just Laughed. How about a food writer? I would have said, not a chance. How about an entrepreneur? My answer would have been, are you kidding?
Today I am all three.
Twenty years ago when I first came to America, I did not know much about cooking. In my new home in Columbus, Ohio, I rolled up my sleeves and tried to replicate what I had seen in my mother's kitchen, she was my role model she set a standard of excellence in me.
I used ingredients that were readily available in local markets and began experimenting.
The first of those experiments – handmade cabbage rolls stuffed with spiced mashed potatoes – won the recipe a spot on the local newspaper's food pages. As a hobby I continued to share recipes every week. A few readers also called to check whether I had written a cookbook. I was flattered and determined to generate a collection of recipes. Ultimately, my adventures in spicy experimentation led to the publication of my cookbooks.
Feel Good When You Wear A VIZINI®, The Chic, Totally Strapless Sun Visor
Rita Hockenbury-Kelt, owner of Vizini®, Inc. launched a revolutionary sun visor that slips onto your sun glasses in the fall of 2007. But in the spring of 2008, Vizini, Inc. received an 8,000-unit shipment of its totally strapless sun visors from China that just did not cut the mustard. “I had store buyers waiting for the new colors and I just could not send these sun visors out. Every time I looked at the stack of orders, my stomach just churned.”
She sent a few of her sun visors to various textile factories here in the US to see if they could fix them, but the cost was prohibitive… until she received a call from a factory located in southwest Virginia. “I’ll never forget that kind gentleman with the deep southern accent asking me, ‘Rita, why don’t you let us make these for you?” She sent out a letter to the waiting buyers explaining that she couldn’t send them an inferior product. She told her buyers of her intent to switch to a US factory. The response? YOU GO, GIRL!
