Rachael’s top working from home tips:
Office space
If you are working from home occasional you still need to have a specific office space that will enable you work professionally and effectively. It should never be the situation where you are laying on the couch in your pyjamas. Choose a location that will allow you to sit comfortably, is quiet and where you have access to all you need for a productive day at work.
Establish a schedule
Being in a home based office is no different than working in any other office; you need to establish a schedule and organise your day. If you are and employee that schedule may be set by the organisation you work for, but if you are an entrepreneur there will be more flexibility in the schedule you establish.
Get the family onboard
When there are family members around, you need to get them on board and prevent any issues arising. There can be the misconception that when you are based at home you are not actually working, resulting in regular interruptions. To prevent this from becoming a problem, there needs to be a clear understanding of your work schedule and guidelines regarding when and how is best for you to be interrupted.
